B.C. records 13 more COVID-19 deaths

Since yesterday, 13 British Columbians lost their lives due to COVID-19, the most in a single day since October.

Of those who died, four lived in the Vancouver Coastal Health region (including Richmond), six in the Fraser Health region, two in the Island Health region and one in the Interior Health region. In all, there have been 2,505 virus-related deaths in B.C. since the pandemic began. 

B.C. health officials reported 2,387 new cases of COVID-19 today. Since the pandemic began, B.C. has recorded 303,565 cases.

Of the new cases, 487 are in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 814 in the Fraser Health region, 275 in the Island Health region, 550 in the Interior Health region, 260 in the Northern Health region and one new case of a person who resides outside of Canada.

There are 35,770 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C. and 895 of those people are hospitalized, 115 of whom are in intensive care. 

To date, 10,217,498 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca and Pfizer Pediatric COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in B.C.; 4,159,043 of those are second doses and 1,646,143 are third doses. 

This means that 92.8 per cent of adults, 92.4 per cent of people aged 12 and older and 89.3 per cent of people aged five and older have received their first dose of a vaccine. In addition, 90.2 per cent of adults, 89.7 per cent of those aged 12 and older and 83.4 per cent of those aged five and older have received two doses; 38 per cent of adults and 35.5 per cent of those aged 12-plus have received three doses.

Health authorities reported five new health-care facility outbreaks and declared two over. Active outbreaks continue at 46 long-term care facilities, one assisted or independent living facility and nine acute care facilities.

From Jan. 11 to 17, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 25.9 per cent of cases and from Jan. 4 to 17, they accounted for 31.8 per cent of hospitalizations.

• Partially vaccinated: 662 (4.4 per cent)

• Fully vaccinated: 11,064 (74.1 per cent)

• Not vaccinated: 286 (26.9 per cent)

• Partially vaccinated: 52 (4.9 per cent)

• Fully vaccinated: 724 (68.2 per cent)

Past week, cases per 100,000 population after adjusting for age (Jan. 11 to 17)

• Not vaccinated: 428.5

• Partially vaccinated: 186.4

• Fully vaccinated: 311.5

Past two weeks, cases hospitalized per 100,000 population after adjusting for age (Jan. 4 to 17)

• Not vaccinated: 70.5

• Partially vaccinated: 41.4

• Fully vaccinated: 15.5
