Three-day COVID-19 case count similar to last weekend’s

B.C. health authorities reported 946 new cases of COVID-19 since Friday. In comparison, last weekend there were 970 cases over three days.

Since the pandemic began, B.C. has recorded 220,530 cases.

Of the new cases, 138 are in the Vancouver Coastal Health region (including Richmond), 285 in the Fraser Health region, 197 in the Island Health region, 211 in the Interior Health region, 115 in the Northern Health region and no new cases of people who reside outside of Canada.

There are 2,876 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C. and 241 of those people are hospitalized, 89 of whom are in intensive care. 

To date, 8,811,162 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in B.C.; 4,085,935 of those are second doses and 492,236 are third doses. 

This means that 91.7 per cent of adults, 91.3 per cent of people aged 12 and older and 85.5 per cent of people aged five and older have received their first dose of a vaccine. In addition, 88.7 per cent of adults, 88.1 per cent of those aged 12 and older and 82.0 per cent of those aged five and older have received two doses. Eleven per cent of adults and 11 per cent of those aged 12-plus have received three doses.

Sadly, there were 11 new virus-related deaths reported since Friday, bringing that total to 2,362. Of those who died, five lived in the Fraser Health region, two in the Interior Health region and four in the Northern Health region.

Active outbreaks continue at two long-term care facilities, one assisted or independent living facility and two acute care facilities.

From Nov. 26 to Dec. 2, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 58.3 per cent of cases and from Nov. 19 to Dec. 2, they accounted for 66.1 per cent of hospitalizations.

• Not vaccinated: 1,337 (54.1 per cent)

• Partially vaccinated: 104 (4.2 per cent)

• Fully vaccinated: 1,032 (41.7 per cent)

Past two weeks cases hospitalized (Nov. 19 to Dec. 2)—Total 239

• Not vaccinated: 147 (61.5 per cent)

• Partially vaccinated: 11 (4.6 per cent)

• Fully vaccinated: 81 (33.9 per cent)

Past week, cases per 100,000 population after adjusting for age (Nov. 26 to Dec. 2)

• Not vaccinated: 176.8

• Partially vaccinated: 47.4

• Fully vaccinated: 23.0

Past two weeks, cases hospitalized per 100,000 population after adjusting for age (Nov. 19 to Dec. 2)

• Not vaccinated: 31.7

• Partially vaccinated: 7.9

• Fully vaccinated: 1.8
