B.C. COVID-19 update: 375 new cases

In a news release, B.C health authorities reported 375 new cases of COVID-19 today. Since the pandemic began, there have been 218,801 cases in the province. 

Health officials also noted today’s case counts are provisional and may be updated.

Of the new cases, 70 are in the Vancouver Coastal Health region (including Richmond), 98 in the Fraser Health region, 76 in the Island Health region, 69 in the Interior Health region, 62 in the Northern Health region and no new cases of people who reside outside of Canada.

There are 2,936 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C. and 301 of those people are hospitalized, 98 of whom are in intensive care. 

To date, 8,709,802 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in B.C.; 4,072,923 of those are second doses and 434,790 are third doses. 

This means that 91.6 per cent of adults, 91.2 per cent of people aged 12 and older and 84.8 per cent of people aged five and older have received their first dose of a vaccine. In addition, 88.4 per cent of adults, 87.9 per cent of those aged 12 and older and 81.7 per cent of those aged five and older have received two doses. Ten per cent of adults and nine per cent of those aged 12-plus have received a third dose.

Sadly, there were seven new virus-related deaths reported today, bringing that total to 2,340. Of those who died, one lived in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, three in the Fraser Health region and three in the Island Health region.

Active outbreaks continue at two long-term care facilities, one assisted or independent living facility and two acute care facilities.

From Nov. 23 to 29, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 58.2 per cent of cases.
From Nov. 16 to 29, they accounted for 68.1 per cent of hospitalizations.

• Not vaccinated: 1,310 (54.3 per cent)

• Partially vaccinated: 95 (3.9 per cent)

• Fully vaccinated: 1,009 (41.8 per cent)

Past two weeks cases hospitalized (Nov. 16 to 29)—Total 267

• Not vaccinated: 171 (64.0 per cent)

• Partially vaccinated: 11 (4.1 per cent)

• Fully vaccinated: 85 (31.8 per cent)

Past week, cases per 100,000 population after adjusting for age (Nov. 23 to 29)

• Not vaccinated: 180.6

• Partially vaccinated: 43.6

• Fully vaccinated: 22.6

Past two weeks, cases hospitalized per 100,000 population after adjusting for age (Nov. 16 to 29)

• Not vaccinated: 36.4

• Partially vaccinated: 7.4

• Fully vaccinated: 1.9
