COVID-19 hospitalizations back above 300

After dipping below 300 last week for the first time in two months, hospitalizations related to an active case of COVID-19 in B.C. are back up to 303 today.

In all, 2,882 cases are considered to be active across the province. Of those in hospital, 115 are in intensive care.

B.C. health authorities reported 970 new cases of COVID-19 since Friday. Since the pandemic began, B.C. has recorded 218,068 cases.

Of the new cases, 103 are in the Vancouver Coastal Health region (including Richmond), 306 in the Fraser Health region, 238 in the Island Health region, 189 in the Interior Health region, 134 in the Northern Health region and no new cases of people who reside outside of Canada.

To date, 8,672,194 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in B.C.; 4,067,778 of those are second doses. 

This means that 91.5 per cent of adults and 91.1 per cent of people aged 12 and older have received their first dose of a vaccine. In addition, 88.3 per cent of adults and 87.8 per cent of those aged 12 and older have received two doses.

Sadly, there were 11 new virus-related deaths reported since Friday, bringing that total to 2,333. Of those who died, four lived in the Fraser Health region, four in the Interior Health region and three in the Northern Health region.

Health authorities reported two healthcare facility outbreaks over. Active outbreaks continue at two long-term care facilities, one assisted or independent living facility and three acute care facilities.

From Nov. 19 to 25, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 59 per cent of cases.

From Nov. 12 to 25 they accounted for 67.2 per cent of hospitalizations.

• Partially vaccinated: 87 (3.5 per cent)

• Fully vaccinated: 1,010 (41.0 per cent)

• Not vaccinated: 175 (61.6 per cent)

• Partially vaccinated: 16 (5.6 per cent)

• Fully vaccinated: 93 (32.7 per cent)

• Not vaccinated: 182

• Partially vaccinated: 40.3

• Fully vaccinated: 22.6

Past two weeks, cases hospitalized per 100,000 population after adjusting for age (Nov. 12 to 25)

• Fully vaccinated: 2
