B.C. reports 424 new cases of COVID-19

B.C. health authorities reported 424 new cases of COVID-19 today. Since the pandemic began, B.C. has recorded 216,758 cases.

Of the new cases, 62 are in the Vancouver Coastal Health region (including Richmond), 140 in the Fraser Health region, 63 in the Island Health region, 93 in the Interior Health region, 66 in the Northern Health region and no new cases of people who reside outside of Canada.

There are 3,061 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C. and 295 of those people are hospitalized, 112 of whom are in intensive care. This is the first time the hospital tally has dipped below 300 in over two months.

To date, 8,609,643 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in B.C.; 4,056,728 of those are second doses. 

This means that 91.4 per cent of adults and 91.0 per cent of people aged 12 and older have received their first dose of a vaccine. In addition, 88.1 per cent of adults and 87.5 per cent of those aged 12 and older have received two doses.

Sadly, there were three new virus-related deaths reported today, bringing that total to 2,316. Of those who died, two lived in the Fraser Health region and one in the Interior Health region.

Health authorities reported two new healthcare facility outbreaks and declared one over. Active outbreaks continue at six long-term care facilities, one assisted or independent living facility and three acute care facilities.

Two outbreaks at elementary schools in the Interior Health region were also declared over.

From Nov. 17 to 23, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 58.9 per cent of cases and from Nov. 10 to 23 they accounted for 68.5 per cent of hospitalizations.

• Not vaccinated: 1,461 (55.1 per cent)

• Partially vaccinated: 101 (3.8 per cent)

• Fully vaccinated: 1,088 (41.1 per cent)

Past two weeks cases hospitalized (Nov. 10 to 23)—Total 301

• Not vaccinated: 188 (62.5 per cent)

• Partially vaccinated: 18 (6.0 per cent)

• Fully vaccinated: 95 (31.6 per cent)

Past week, cases per 100,000 population after adjusting for age (Nov. 17 to 23)

• Not vaccinated: 197.7

• Partially vaccinated: 44.6

• Fully vaccinated: 24.4

Past two weeks, cases hospitalized per 100,000 population after adjusting for age (Nov. 10 to 23)

• Not vaccinated: 39.3

• Partially vaccinated: 11.6

• Fully vaccinated: 2.1
