Alan Sakai will continue to sit as president of the Steveston Community Society.
Sakai, along with Alan Clark (vice-president) and Craig Stewart, were all re-elected to two-year terms at the Oct. 26 annual general meeting and will form the board of directors through to 2023.
Also elected to two-year terms through to the 2023 annual general meeting were Brandon Kato, Mike Matsuo, Martin McConnell and Ampellia Schuss. Meanwhile, Susan Epp, Joan Haws, Jim Kojima (treasurer), Frances Lorenz, Johanna Stewart (secretary) and Barbara Whittle will continue to serve their terms in office through to the 2022 annual general meeting.
The Steveston Community Society is primarily a volunteer association dedicated to maintaining a positive, pioneer “Spirit of Steveston” by providing cultural, social, and recreational opportunities for all members of the community.
The society oversees several community events throughout the year, including the Steveston Salmon Festival and the annual Steveston Christmas Craft Fair which—unfortunately—has been cancelled again for 2021 in light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. It is everyone’s hope the event can be offered again in 2022.
