B.C. reports 1,846 cases, 26 deaths

B.C. health authorities reported 1,846 new cases of COVID-19 since Friday, six of which are epidemiologically linked. Since the pandemic began, B.C. has recorded 198,278 cases.

Of the new cases, 212 are in the Vancouver Coastal Health region (including Richmond), 737 in the Fraser Health region, 169 in the Island Health region, 322 in the Interior Health region, 406 in the Northern Health region and no new cases of people who reside outside of Canada.

There are 4,917 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C. and 360 of those people are hospitalized, 151 of whom are in intensive care. 

To date, 8,060,794 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in B.C.; 3,865,096 of those are second doses. 

This means that 89.6 per cent of adults and 89.2 per cent of people aged 12 and older have received their first dose of a vaccine. In addition, 84.1 per cent of adults and 83.4 per cent of those aged 12 and older have received two doses.

Sadly, there were 26 new virus-related deaths reported since Friday, bringing that total to 2,081. Of those who died, three lived in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 10 in the Fraser Health region, three in the Island Health region, five in the Interior Health region and five in the Northern Health region. 

Health authorities reported four new healthcare facility outbreaks and declared one over. Active outbreaks continue at 14 long-term care facilities, four assisted or independent living facilities and four acute care facilities.

From Oct. 8 to 14, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 68.3 per cent of cases and from Oct. 1 to 14, they accounted for 74.6 per cent of hospitalizations.

• Not vaccinated: 2,420 (61.8 per cent)

• Partially vaccinated: 255 (6.5 per cent)

• Fully vaccinated: 1,239 (31.7 per cent)

Past two weeks cases hospitalized (Oct. 1 to 14)—Total 465

• Not vaccinated: 320 (68.8 per cent)

• Partially vaccinated: 27 (5.8 per cent)

• Fully vaccinated: 118 (25.4 per cent)

Past week, cases per 100,000 population after adjusting for age (Oct. 8 to 14)

• Not vaccinated: 268

• Partially vaccinated: 74.2

• Fully vaccinated: 29.4

Past two weeks, cases hospitalized per 100,000 population after adjusting for age (Oct. 1 to 14)

• Not vaccinated: 53.4

• Partially vaccinated: 11.8

• Fully vaccinated: 2.7

Since December 2020, the province has administered 8,060,794 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines.
