Active COVID-19 cases in B.C. up slightly

The number of active COVID-19 cases in B.C. increased today for the first time in two and a half months.
There are 624 active cases in B.C., up from 602 yesterday. The seven-day rolling average also rose again, up to 39 from 37 yesterday.
B.C. health authorities reported 59 new cases of COVID-19 today, bringing the province’s cumulative total to 147,856.
Of the new cases, 13 are in the Vancouver Coastal Health region (including Richmond), 20 in the Fraser Health region, three in the Island Health region, 17 in the Interior Health region, two in the Northern Health region and four new cases of people who reside outside of Canada.
Of the active cases, 86 people are hospitalized, 20 of whom are in intensive care.
To date, 5,404,047 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in B.C.; 1,772,595 of those are second doses.
This means that 78.2 per cent of people aged 12 and older have received their first dose of a vaccine and 38.2 per cent have received two doses.
There were no new virus-related deaths reported today, for the second day in a row.
Active outbreaks continue at one long-term care facility and three acute care facilities.
