COVID-19 vaccination rates in Richmond are now comparable to the provincial average, according to the latest data from the B.C. Centre for Disease Control.

The vaccination rate remains highest in Steveston, with 82 per cent of adults having received at least one dose. The Gilmore/Shellmont/East/Hamilton and East and West Cambie/Bridgeport regions aren’t far behind, with 78 and 77 per cent of adult residents having received a dose respectively.

The Thompson/Seafair neighbourhood has 75 per cent of adults vaccinated, City Centre 73 per cent, and Blundell and Broadmoor 72 per cent. The provincial average vaccination rate is 76.3 per cent of adults as of today.

This compares to Friday, when data showed City Centre and Blundell at 71 per cent and Broadmoor at 70 per cent. The provincial average was 75.1 per cent that day. When neighbourhood-specific vaccination data was first released, the City Centre region was among the lowest-vaccinated in B.C., with just 45 per cent of adults having received a dose compared to just under 60 per cent across the province at that time.

Health officials said to date, 4,165,142 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in B.C.; 710,847 of those are second doses.

They also reported 113 new cases of COVID-19 today, for a total of 146,674 cases in the province since the pandemic began.

Of the new cases, 27 are in the Vancouver Coastal Health region (including Richmond), 51 in the Fraser Health region, four in the Island Health region, 31 in the Interior Health region, and zero in the Northern Health region.

Today’s case counts are provisional and may be adjusted once verified, according to a statement from health officials.

There are 1,454 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C. and 134 of those people are hospitalized, 41 of whom are in intensive care.

Sadly, there were four new virus-related deaths reported today, bringing that total to 1,738.

Health authorities reported one healthcare facility outbreak over. Active outbreaks continue at four long-term care, assisted living and independent living facilities.
