Richmond MLAs host COVID-19 vaccine town hall meeting

Richmond’s NDP MLAs are holding a town hall next Wednesday to encourage locals to get the COVID-19 vaccine.

Most neighbourhoods of Richmond continue to trail behind the provincial average vaccination rate according to the latest available local data. Province-wide, 3,488,884 doses have been administered; 256,725 of those are second doses. This means that, as of today, 72.4 per cent of all adults in B.C. and 69.6 per cent of those 12 and older have received their first dose.
B.C. health authorities also reported 183 new cases of COVID-19 today, two of which are epidemiologically linked. Since the pandemic began, B.C. has recorded 145,049 cases.
Of the new cases, 40 are in the Vancouver Coastal Health region (including Richmond), 101 in the Fraser Health region, three in the Island Health region, 30 in the Interior Health region and nine in the Northern Health region.
There are 2,453 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C. and 224 of those people are hospitalized, 59 of whom are in intensive care.
Sadly, there was one new virus-related death reported today, bringing that total to 1,710.
Health authorities reported one new healthcare facility outbreak. Two local outbreaks continue at Richmond Lions Manor-Bridgeport care home and Richmond Hospital. Elsewhere in the province, four other long-term care, assisted living and independent living facilities and one other acute care facility have active outbreaks.
