B.C.’s COVID-19 hospitalizations continue to rise

COVID-19 related hospitalizations continue to rise in B.C., with 483 people in hospital with active cases today. Of those, 164 are in intensive care.

B.C. health authorities also reported 862 new cases of COVID-19, for a total of 121,751 cases in the province since the pandemic began. 

Of the new cases, 200 are in the Vancouver Coastal Health region (including Richmond), 557 in the Fraser Health region, 25 in the Island Health region, 54 in the Interior Health region and 26 in the Northern Health region.

There are 8,906 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C. and a further 13,135 people are under active public health monitoring.

There was no update on variants of concern today.

To date, 1,456,946 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca-SII COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in B.C., 88,335 of which are second doses. 

Sadly, there were seven new virus-related deaths reported today, bringing that total to 1,546.

Active outbreaks continue at four long-term care, assisted living and independent living facilities and seven acute care facilities.
