B.C. health authorities reported 427 new cases of COVID-19 today, including 20 that are epidemiologically linked, for a total of 74,710 cases in the province since the pandemic began.

Of the new cases, 90 are in the Vancouver Coastal Health region (including Richmond), 236 in the Fraser Health region, 18 in the Island Health region, 47 in the Interior Health region, 31 in the Northern Health region and five new cases of people who reside outside of Canada.

There are 4,150 active cases and 232 people hospitalized with COVID-19, 63 of whom are in intensive care. A further 7,238 people are under active public health monitoring.

To date, 176,015 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in B.C., 26,030 of which are second doses.

Sadly, there were three more deaths related to the virus since yesterday for a total of 1,317 deaths in British Columbia. We offer our condolences to everyone who has lost loved ones to COVID-19.

There were no new healthcare outbreaks announced, and two were declared over leaving 12 active outbreaks in long-term care or assisted living facilities and six in acute care facilities.

"Most people in B.C. are doing the right thing, and we encourage everyone, in turn, to support friends and family to also continue to take precautions in their daily lives. It is not only our individual efforts that make the difference, but the power of all of us working together that helps break the chains of transmission,” said officials in a statement.

A survey has been launched by researchers at the University of British Columbia, Simon Fraser University, BC Children's Hospital and the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) to understand the impacts on the mental well-being of youth.
