Those hoping for a unique way to celebrate Mother’s Day this year need not look beyond London Heritage Farm.
The popular 1890s historic site, located at 6511 Dyke Rd. in south Richmond, is hosting its 11th annual plant sale this weekend (Saturday, May 13 and Sunday, May 14) that coincides with its always-popular Mother’s Day tea indoors.
“It will be fun-filled day, with an opportunity for visitors to explore our 4.6-acre heritage site, visit our chickens and a chance to pick out something special for moms and grandmothers,” said Mary Lou Schootman, acting administrator of the London Heritage Farm Society.
“And we will have a daily draw for a beautiful hanging basket for Mother’s Day, and all children will receive a surprise plant at the check out.”
The plant sale, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, is a tradition that homemakers and gardeners have made a part of their spring routine. This year’s selection promises to wide-ranging including perennials, annuals, herbs, hanging baskets, organic vegetable seedlings and succulent arrangements grown on site.
The traditional tea is served in a country-style tea room in the lower level of the heritage farmhouse which seats up to 24 people. It is open from noon to 5 p.m. and reservations are recommended at 604-271-5220. The full tea, served in fine bone china, includes a custom blend of London lady tea along with a homemade scone with jam and butter as well as three home-baked treats.
A major fundraiser for London Heritage Farm, all proceeds from the plant sale, overseen entirely by volunteers, goes towards maintaining the site.
