For a festive time, celebrating our professional helpers, join the Richmond community at Branscombe House. Located on the SW corner of Steveston and Railway, from 3 pm to 7 pm Thursday, May 18. In addition to BC Ambulance, the Richmond Fire Department, RCMP and military personnel, there will be people from specific groups. Organizations such as the Marine Unit, the Bike Squad, the schools’ DARE program, and the dog service. You can also expect to see “Sergeant Safety Bear” roaming about, greeting children.

First Responder Appreciation Day, sponsored by Chabad of Richmond offers barbequed kosher hot dogs free to all first responders. They ask a small fee for the food from the general public with all funds raised going to the Kosher Food Bank in Richmond.

Learn about responders in all their variety, thank the people who keep us safe and enjoy a good hot dog. You can also register your bike with the national registry, just in case it goes missing and the police find it, they have your information so it can be returned.

With the value of bikes stolen in BC every year is greater than all the loot lost in bank robberies, thieves are organised so it’s time the public was as well.

The National Bike Registry has merged with the North America-wide Project 529 bike registry program.

“In the summer of 2015, we were approached by the Vancouver Police Department to support a focused initiative to attack the bike theft epidemic in BC. Once we overcame the challenges with crossing the border, we got a real feeling for scale, quickly. In the first year, we registered over 20,000 bikes in BC with the help of law enforcement, bike shops, cycling clubs and riders in BC. More stolen bikes seized, more recovered and more returnedand public and private organizations collaborating to turn the tide,” says the Project 529 website.
