B.C.’s active COVID-19 count rises overnight

After reporting 4,134 COVID-19 cases in B.C. yesterday—a decrease of about 400 from Friday’s count—the number rose by 400 again today to 4,542.

Health officials reported 429 new cases, 10 of which are epidemiologically linked, for a total of 68,366 in the province. There are 294 people hospitalized with COVID-19, 82 of whom are in intensive care. A further 7,080 people are under active public health monitoring.

Of the new cases, 112 are in the Vancouver Coastal Health region (including Richmond), 202 in the Fraser Health region, 27 in the Island Health region, 51 in the Interior Health region, 35 in the Northern Health region and two new cases of people who reside outside of Canada.

To date, 140,452 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in B.C., 5,097 of which are second doses. 

Sadly, there were eight new COVID-19 related deaths in the last 24 hours, for a total of 1,218 deaths in British Columbia.
