A chance to laugh, sing, and dance
The Richmond Night Market is celebrating
Canada 150 with a series of four musical evenings Saturdays in July.
From July 8 to July 29, this family-friendly
event starts at 7:30 p.m. opening with a different community group each week,
and the main act takes the stage for an hour of professionally-performed
Canadian music.
Says creator-in-chief Susan Skemp, “We will
only be performing music by groups that stayed in Canada like Trooper,
Bachman-Turner Overdrive and many others that we are keeping under our hat
right now.”
Skemp says that there will be opportunities
for audience participation and sing-a-longs. “We’ll bring a few of the audience
up on the stage for a little quiz and some skill-testing questions.”
She hints at the possibility of prizes. The
questions, she assures, won’t be difficult but more like fun facts you might
not know.
The Richmond Singers will perform as the
opening act July 8. This local group of serious singers has performed in New
York as well as Richmond venues.
While assuring that all will be revealed once
Night Market-goers show up, Skemp says, “They’ll know the songs when they hear them.
It promises to be fun for the family. I want them to sing I want them to dance.
It’s dance and movement, having fun, humour with audience participation and a
little Canadian history.”
