Kick off summer by joining the fun at the Thompson Community Association’s annual community picnic June 21.

This free, all ages event, from 5:45 to 8 p.m., encourages neighbours to connect and enjoy an evening of activities and entertainment that includes:

• Bicycle registration with the RCMP’s 529 program

•Kids Zone

• Try-it Pickleball and floor hockey

• Interactive community booths

• Children’s party activities,

• Bike decorating

• Free hot dogs

“At Thompson, we connect with our community through neighbourhood events, grass roots initiatives, outreach programs and services,” says special events committee chair Holly Munn. “Our Community Picnic is a great example of this. I hope everyone will join us for this much anticipated annual event.”

Headlining the main stage is the musical vocal trio Beauty Shop Dolls and the Indie Rock Band Renegade, with active fitness demos between acts.

Attendees are encouraged to take transit, cycle or walk to the event as parking will be limited. The City of Richmond’s Wheel Watch team will be onsite to provide a secure place to park a stroller, bike or wagon. Summer camp leaders will help children of all ages to decorate their wheels and take part in the Walk, Rock and Wheel parade finale.

At the event, explore sustainability and active transportation by learning about the City’s bike share program with U-Bicycle, and sharing your feedback with the City’s transportation and environmental program staff.
