Hundreds of community members, high school students, industry leaders and friends and family gathered in the Wilson School of Design at Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) for the annual grad show.

The two-day event showcased the creative work of graduating students from seven design programs, which include Fashion and Technology, Fashion Marketing, Foundations in Design, Graphic Design for Marketing, Interior Design, Product Design, and Technical Apparel Design. Also introduced was the school’s new Front-End Development for Interactive Applications program.

This year’s theme was Seeds of Innovation, representing the growth and transformation that students have experienced, according to Andhra Goundrey, Dean of the Wilson School of Design.

“This is an opportunity for our students to celebrate their journey with each other, friends and family, faculty and staff, and to engage with prospective employers,” says Goundrey.

The exhibition, held April 24 and 25, showcased a range of projects such as a specialized school for deaf students, packable footwear for outdoor enthusiasts, women’s motorcycle gear and an anti-theft travel bag designed for commuters and travellers, to name a few.

“The work represents exploration, creativity and innovative design solutions that address a range of social, sustainable, inclusivity, performance and productivity issues,” says Goundrey.  “We are incredibly proud of all their hard work and care for each other and I am grateful to our faculty, staff and industry mentors who have diligently supported our students along the way.”
