Richmond Community Foundation kicks off scholarship season

If you're graduating this year, and plan on pursuing a post-secondary education, a Richmond Community Foundation scholarship can provide a helpful financial boost.
Importantly, it doesn't matter what you're studying. Scholarships are available for any and all academic fields, artistic disciplines, and trade programs. Don't worry about your grades, either, as they're only one of many factors considered when assessing applications. Equally significant are financial need, community involvement, and strength of references.
Another reason to apply: it's easy. The foundation has a simple, online application form, allowing you to apply for multiple scholarships at once.
And don't discount the long-term benefits of a scholarship. Even after the money is spent, the scholarship will still appear on your resume: a mark of achievement that will stand out to recruiters, HR professionals, selection committees, and other decision makers along your educational and professional journey.
The final day to apply is March 14. Click here to get started.
Make a Difference as a Senior Peer Counsellor
Richmond Cares, Richmond Gives is seeking volunteers aged 60+ to serve as Senior Peer Counsellors. In this fulfilling and rewarding role, you'll provide one-on-one emotional support to fellow older adults, helping them navigate the sometimes difficult transitions that come with the senior years.
As clients cope with anxiety, loneliness, and uncertainty, you'll offer a listening ear and calm, considered advice, drawing on your own life experience to guide each client towards a place of strength, resilience, and understanding.
Prior to becoming a Senior Peer Counsellor, you'll complete a comprehensive, 44-hour training course, covering stress management, problem solving, empathetic communication, and more. Upon graduating, you'll become affiliated with Senior Peer Counselling of BC, through which you can access additional education, resources, and support.
RCRG, of course, will be there every step of the way, matching you with clients, answering your questions, and connecting you with other Senior Peer Counsellors, with whom you'll come to share a unique bond.
Our next training course begins in May. Click here for more information.
RCRG Connects with Community at Annual Asian Heritage Fair
On February 16, at Lansdowne Centre, RCRG participated in the Richmond Chinese Community Society's Asian Heritage Fair. We always have a wonderful time at the event, and this year was no exception.
There were dazzling cultural performances, a fashion show, and so much more, but the part we enjoyed most was connecting with our community. At the RCRG table, staff and volunteers from our Seniors Community Support Services interacted with a steady stream guests, sharing information on our many healthy aging programs, like Better at Home and the Richmond Family & Friend Caregiver Hub.
A huge thank you to Safeway Seafair and PriceSmart Foods for sponsoring our table, and ensuring we had plenty of treats to hand out to guests.
In the months ahead, be on the lookout for RCRG at other community events. You'll recognize us by the colourful tablecloth, and our eagerness to discuss local volunteer opportunities and community resources.
