B.C. reports COVID-19 data from Jan. 15 to 21

In the past week (Jan. 15 to 21) there were 408 new COVID-19 cases reported in B.C., bringing the overall total to 394,774 since the pandemic began.

Of the new cases, 82 were in the Vancouver Coastal Health region (including Richmond), 165 in the Fraser Health region, 66 in the Island Health region, 69 in the Interior Health region, and 26 in the Northern Health region.

As of today, there are 228 people currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in B.C., 22 of whom are in critical care.

There were 104 new hospital admissions in the past week (Jan. 15 to 21). Of those, 23 were in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 42 in the Fraser Health region, 17 in the Island Health region, 16 in the Interior Health region, and six in the Northern Health region. According to the B.C. Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) report, these numbers are expected to increase as data become more complete.

The number of COVID-19 admissions in the previous week (Jan. 8 to 14) increased to 173 from the 142 originally reported last week.

There were 19 new critical care admissions in the past week (Jan. 15 to 21). Of those, two were in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 10 in the Fraser Health region, four in the Island Health region, two in the Interior Health region, and one in the Northern Health region. According to the B.C. Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) report, these numbers are expected to increase as data become more complete.

The number of critical care admissions in the previous week (Jan. 8 to 14) increased to 27 from the 24 originally reported last week.

The 30-day all-cause mortality report, which includes COVID-19 and non-COVID-19 related deaths occurring within 30 days from a positive lab result, indicates there were 27 deaths between Jan. 15 and 21.

Of those who died, three lived in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 12 in the Fraser Health region, three in the Island Health region, eight in the Interior Health region, and one in the Northern Health region. According to the B.C. Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) report, these numbers are expected to increase as data become more complete.

The number of COVID-19 deaths in the previous week (Jan. 8 to 14) increased to 48 from the 27 originally reported last week. Deaths the previous week (Jan. 1 to 7) increased by five to 47.
