Improved safety is the aim of a Highway 99 resurfacing project set to begin Tuesday.

Work on either side of the George Massey Tunnel, between Steveston Highway and Highway 17, will feature a new line painting along the busy corridor.

To minimize delays, most of the work is being scheduled outside of peak traffic periods. Drivers are advised to watch for nightly lane closures and to obey all traffic-control personnel, construction speed limits and signs.

Work, which is weather dependent, is expected to be completed by this fall.
