There were 191 COVID-19 cases in Richmond last week (Jan. 23 to 29). The previous week (Jan. 16 to 22) there were 273 cases.

Richmond’s weekly count climbed rapidly in December after being consistently under 100 per week for about six months. After hitting a peak of 563, recorded the last week of December, it dropped each week in January. However, the province changed its guidance in January and now recommends that most people with mild symptoms do not need a test.

B.C. health officials reported 1,518 new cases of COVID-19 today. Since the pandemic began, B.C. has recorded 329,143 cases.

Of the new cases, 217 are in the Vancouver Coastal Health region (including Richmond), 424 in the Fraser Health region, 217 in the Island Health region, 431 in the Interior Health region, 227 in the Northern Health region, and two new cases of people who reside outside of Canada.

There are 25,554 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C. and 985 COVID-positive individuals are in hospital, 145 of whom are in intensive care.

To date, 10,842,432 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca and Pfizer Pediatric COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in B.C.;  4,195,459 of those are second doses and 2,204,107 are third doses.

This means that 93.1 per cent of adults, 92.8 per cent of people aged 12 and older, and 90.0 per cent of people aged five and older have received their first dose of a vaccine. In addition, 90.6 per cent of adults, 90.1 per cent of those aged 12 and older, and 84.2 per cent of those aged five and older have received two doses; 50.9 per cent of adults and 47.6 per cent of those aged 12-plus have received three doses.

Sadly, there were 13 new virus-related deaths reported today, bringing that total to 2,656. Of those who died, four lived in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, four in the Fraser Health region, two in the Island Health region, two in the Interior Health region, and one in the Northern Health region.

Health authorities reported two new health-care facility outbreaks. Active outbreaks continue at 46 long-term care facilities, three assisted or independent living facilities, and seven acute care facilities.
