B.C. reports 501 new COVID-19 cases

B.C. health authorities reported 501 new cases of COVID-19 today, nine of which are epidemiologically linked. Since the pandemic began, B.C. has recorded 157,014 cases.

Of the new cases, 92 are in the Vancouver Coastal Health region (including Richmond), 139 in the Fraser Health region, 28 in the Island Health region, 205 in the Interior Health region, 35 in the Northern Health region and two new cases of people who reside outside of Canada.

There are 5,296 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C. and 111 of those people are hospitalized, 51 of whom are in intensive care. 

To date, 7,248,039 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in B.C.; 3,406,546 of those are second doses. 

This means that 83.5 per cent of adults and 82.7 per cent of people aged 12 and older have received their first dose of a vaccine. In addition, 74.9 per cent of adults and 73.5 per cent of those aged 12 and older have received two doses.

Sadly, there was one new virus-related death reported today, bringing that total to 1,781.

Active outbreaks continue at seven long-term care facilities and three assisted or independent living facilities.
