COVID-19 cases continue to soar in B.C.

B.C. health authorities reported 717 new cases of COVID-19 today, 11 of which are epidemiologically linked. Since the pandemic began, B.C. has recorded 155,079 cases.

Of the new cases, 101 are in the Vancouver Coastal Health region (including Richmond), 140 in the Fraser Health region, 40 in the Island Health region, 376 in the Interior Health region, 60 in the Northern Health region and no new cases of people who reside outside of Canada.

There are 4,277 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C. and 82 of those people are hospitalized, 39 of whom are in intensive care. 

To date, 7,164,020 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in B.C.; 3,337,348 of those are second doses. 

This means that 83.2 per cent of adults and 82.4 per cent of people aged 12 and older have received their first dose of a vaccine. In addition, 73.6 per cent of adults and 72 per cent of those aged 12 and older have received two doses.

There were no new virus-related deaths reported today.

Health authorities reported three new healthcare facility outbreaks. There are now active outbreaks at nine long-term care facilities and two assisted or independent living facilities across the province.
