New COVID-19 cases hit three-month high

B.C. health authorities reported 536 new cases of COVID-19 today, the highest since May 13. Four of the new cases are epidemiologically linked. Since the pandemic began, B.C. has recorded 153,849 cases.

Of the new cases, 105 are in the Vancouver Coastal Health region (including Richmond), 135 in the Fraser Health region, 26 in the Island Health region, 258 in the Interior Health region, 12 in the Northern Health region and no new cases of people who reside outside of Canada.

There are 3,585 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C. and 72 of those people are hospitalized, 29 of whom are in intensive care. 

To date, 7,114,250 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in B.C.; 3,296,603 of those are second doses. 

This means that 83 per cent of adults and 82.2 per cent of people aged 12 and older have received their first dose of a vaccine. In addition, 72.9 per cent of adults and 71.1 per cent of those aged 12 and older have received two doses.

Sadly, there was one new virus-related death reported today, bringing that total to 1,778.

Health authorities reported one new healthcare facility outbreak. There are now active outbreaks at eight long-term care facilities.
