Gotta Sing! Gotta Dance! celebrating Shamilton
The sound of music is again filling the Jewish Community Centre this summer.
The sound of music is again filling the
Jewish Community Centre this summer.
Sixty-seven talented and energetic young
performers aged nine to 19 from around the province, some from as far as
Williams Lake, are taking part in Gotta Sing! Gotta Dance! this July.
Now in its 25th year, Gotta Sing! Gotta
Dance! is the creation of camp director Perry Ehrlich who has assembled an
impressive faculty that includes musical directors Wendy Stuart and Diane
Spears; choreographers Jason Franco, Anna Kuman, Meghan Anderssen and Keri
Minty; director Chris McGregor; acting coach and improv specialist Amanda
Testini; and set construction and production gurus Marina Munoz, Charlie Beaver
and Brynna Dummond.
To help mark the silver anniversary, Ehrlich
has written a new show called Shamilton which features over 30 songs from
Broadway and movie musicals—from Waitress and Hamilton to A Star Is Born, Mary
Poppins Returns and Candide and popular songs by Queen, Gloria Estefan and Sly
and the Family Stone.
Popular TV station EH-B-C is hosting a
cross-Canada contest. The first 10 people to call in will receive free tickets
to see Hamilton—the city in Ontario. The winners will be accompanied by Dr.
Graham Murphy, Jordan Field and Andrew Robb.
Ehrlich’s 25th anniversary script is a
mini-history lesson about Hamilton, Ontario (with special thanks to the City of
Hamilton and Tourism Hamilton for assisting him in his research). It also
pays tribute to all things Canadian with a special Canadian Carpool Karaoke
hosted by none other than James Corden.
Shamilton will be presented July 24 at 7:30 p.m. and July 25 at 1 and 7:30 p.m. at the Jewish Community Centre of Greater Vancouver, 950 West 41st Ave. in Vancouver. Tickets are $15.
