Students interested in engineering have a chance to learn more—and test their creations.

The Richmond Public Library’s annual event in recognition of National Engineering and Geoscience Month is this Saturday (March 7) at the main Brighouse branch of the Richmond Public Library, 100-7700 Minoru Gate.

This event is a hands-on way for students to learn about jobs in engineering and geoscience.

During the ‘Bridge Busting’ portion of the event, students will compete as individuals or in teams to try to create the strongest bridge out of popsicle sticks. Bridges are put to the test by a machine operated by representatives from the Richmond/Delta branch of the Engineers & Geoscientists of BC.

This year, Science World will also attend the event, bringing exhibits for participants to enjoy.

The Science and Engineering Fair opens at 10 a.m. Science World’s showcase is at 12:30 p.m. and the bridge busting event starts at 1:30 p.m.

To register for the popsicle stick bridge competition, visit the library’s website: yourlibrary.bibliocommons.com/events/5e332d4710d7485000d30f2e.
