One class at Grauer elementary is learning the value of helping others during the holiday season.

Ms. Bawa’s Grade 3 and 4 students once again partnered with the Salvation Army Richmond to provide family fun boxes to families in need this December.

Students eagerly looked forward to this activity throughout the fall, having learned about the project from last year’s class. They learned about families in need in Richmond and how they can help by donating to the local food banks and being thankful for the things that they have.

Students brainstormed a list of activities they like to do with their families and used the list to determine what to include inside the boxes. They decided each one would have a board game, a deck of cards, a hot beverage (coffee/hot chocolate), a Jenga game, a word search book, popcorn and chocolates.

The students were excited to be able to give back to the community and help other families in need. In total they made 15 boxes.

The Richmond Sunset Rotary Club financed the activity, as they are the school’s sponsor club. EarlyAct schools like Grauer emphasize giving back to the community and promoting goodwill, understanding and peace though active student participation in local and global communities.
