Featuring Rolls-Royce engineering and
state-of-the-art design, Lufthansa’s new long-haul aircraft arrived at
Vancouver International Airport Tuesday. Celebrating hashtag YVRAirbusDay, it also
marked the start of daily passenger service between Vancouver (YVR) and Munich,
Germany (MUC) during the airline’s summer schedule.
The first time the plane has touched down in
Canada, Lufthansa’s website describes the Airbus A350-900 as “the world’s most
state-of-the-art.”
“Economy class is particularly roomy and
comfortable and features the most recent technology,” according to the
website. “On average, the new
plane consumes only 2.9 litres of kerosene per passenger per hundred kilometres—roughly
one quarter of that consumed by comparable aircraft.”
Tuesday also marked the return of British
Airway’s A380 which is the world’s largest passenger aircraft. The double-deck,
wide-body, four-engine jet will also be operating daily between YVR and London
Heathrow (LHR) until Sept. 30.
