Fo Guang Shan Temple donates $85,000 to Hospital Foundation

Buddha’s Light International Association and Vancouver International Buddhist Progress Society have come together to support health care in Richmond, making a $50,000 donation to the ACT NOW campaign.
“Our health care professionals face challenges with the current space and aging building,” says Venerable Chueh Chu (Abbess of the temple). “Seeing the outdated infrastructure and crowded space in the wards/hallways, you can see it is difficult to provide the quality of care here in Richmond. When I learned about the ACT NOW Campaign, I was relieved and excited that the hospital is working towards updating our facilities and working towards a better and healthier future for Richmond.”
Recognizing what an impact this project will have for Richmond, Buddha’s Light International Association and Vancouver International Buddhist Progress Society wanted to be a part of a legacy that will benefit countless people and families in the community.
While the new Yurkovich Family Pavilion (Acute Care Tower) will benefit the community in the future, the Vancouver Fo Guang Shan Temple also looked at the current needs in the hospital and what they could do now to make a difference. When Venerable Chueh Chu learned Richmond Hospital’s lab urgently needing to get a few Microtome machines, she decided to bring it forward to Buddha’s Light International Association and within months, they were able to raise $35,000 among their members and devotees to help purchase one Microtome machine.
