Official opening of fire hall delayed

Be it a reno or a new build, we have all
learned about the inevitable delays. The City of Richmond is not immune to
these realities of construction and landscaping.
As a consequence, the grand opening of their
new main fire hall at Gilbert Rd. and Granville St., originally scheduled for
this Saturday, June 23, has been delayed due to unavoidable circumstances.
The city assures us that the festivities will
still be held but at a later date, when all is done and ready for the public to
peruse.
According to city spokesperson, Kim Decker, “Some
landscaping and other minor works for the facility have not yet been completed
and the building would not be occupied by Richmond Fire-Rescue staff or
operational by June 23. Postponing the official opening will ensure the public
will have the opportunity to view and tour the building once Richmond
Fire-Rescue is moved in and the fire hall is fully operational.”
While the official opening has been delayed,
the schedule for Richmond Fire-Rescue to move into the building has not
changed. It is expected the building will be fully operational within the next
few weeks.
“A new date for the opening will be announced
in the near future,” says Decker.
