UPDATE: Richmond RCMP is pleased to report the vintage violin, that was previously reported lost, has been safely returned to its rightful owner.
The owner of the violin expresses gratitude to the finder and the community for their support. "I want to thank the men who found my violin and turned it in. To the public, I hope my story shows the importance of making a police report and also the value of reporting found items to police in case someone is looking for it."
Richmond RCMP extends its gratitude to the finder for their integrity and to all community members who contribute in making the city a safe and respectful one.
Richmond RCMP is appealing to a passerby who picked up a vintage violin from the roadway.
On July 16, 2025, at approximately 12:25 p.m., Richmond RCMP received a report that a violin had fallen out from an open trunk on the roadway in the 7000 block of Francis Road (Francis Road and Gilbert Road), near the entrance of a commercial plaza. The violin is a 1920 Carlo Micelli and was inside a black rectangular hard case with red lining, and two straps on the bottom allowing it to be worn like a backpack. The violin is engraved “Carlo Micelli Anno 1920”.
Witnesses in the area observed a newer model blue pick-up truck pulling over, and the driver retrieving the fallen item and putting it in his truck.
“We hope by making this appeal, that anyone with information about the whereabouts of the violin will come forward,” says Corporal Melissa Lui, Media Relations Officer of Richmond RCMP.
Investigators are hoping to reunite the missing item with its rightful owner and urge the finder to call the Richmond RCMP non-emergency line at 604-278-1212 and quote file number 2025-22721. Anyone with information, or dash cam footage in the area regarding this incident should also contact police.
