Lansdowne Centre again collaborates with the Richmond RCMP to support the 10th Annual Richmond Toy Drive, raising awareness and gifts for families in need for the Richmond Cares Richmond Gives (RCRG) 92nd annual Richmond Christmas Fund.

On Saturday, November 23, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., the event will take place at Lansdowne Centre parking lot (next to Canada Line station). The public is encouraged to contribute by donating new, unwrapped toys or making a minimum $10 donation. In return, they’ll receive a bag of warm mini donuts, courtesy of FortisBC, along with a ticket to a Richmond Sockeyes game.

The funds go towards supporting families in need this holiday season. Gently used clothes, blankets, and textiles will also be collected and donated to the Salvation Army.

The event promises a fun-filled ball hockey game where members of the Richmond Sockeyes and Richmond RCMP will faceoff with local VIPs, delectable treats and excellent photo opportunities with RCMP officers in red serge and, of course, Santa Claus.

"This marks our longstanding partnership with the Richmond Christmas Fund for the past 14 years, and we are dedicated to making a positive impact in the community and supporting families in need during this festive season," says Bronwyn Bailey, marketing manager. "Alongside the Richmond RCMP, we hope to inspire widespread participation in this meaningful holiday initiative.”

Last year, the 2023 Toy Drive broke records, raising $29,347, collecting 2.3 tonnes of toys, and 535 pounds of used textiles for the Salvation Army. Richmond RCMP is aiming to surpass these totals this year with even more community involvement.

“We are grateful for the community’s support for the past 91 years. The fund-raising and toy drive initiatives are especially important in times of rising inflation. We hope many people will continue to support the Christmas Fund so that Richmond's most vulnerable can celebrate in the spirit of the holidays,” says Ed Gavsie, president & chief executive officer of RCRG.
