Finalists from last month’s Little Sunshine talent competition collected clothing donations for the Salvation Army at Aberdeen Centre last weekend.

The annual “Winter Warm Wave” is Fairchild Radio’s charity campaign benefitting the Salvation Army, and comprises two projects: a six-week clothing drive and a one-day event called “Give the Gift of Warmth.” In all, a total of 796 kilograms (1,755 pounds) of used clothing, blankets, books, and toys were raised in four hours.

In 2020 and 2021, the city-wide clothing drive continued, but the “Give the Gift of Warmth” event did not happen due to the pandemic. The one-day collection facilitates many Richmondites who do not want to travel far to donate their piles of unwanted clothing and household items. This year the event was back to its pre-pandemic scale and the Little Sunshine finalists, Fairchild Radio DJs, and other volunteers all lent a hand to the good cause.

“Winter Warm Wave” will continue until Jan. 3, and people can support the campaign by donating used clothing items to any Salvation Army thrift store in B.C.
