Gateway Theatre has announced the performers for its Songs of Summer concert, scheduled for Aug. 27.

DJ Miss Sparklez—also known as Krystal Kiran—and Krystle Dos Santos will entertain audiences during the outdoor event.

Kiran was born and raised in B.C.’s Okanagan Valley and is an internationally renowned performing artist, choreographer, and arts educator. She is a first-generation Canadian born to immigrant parents from India and is also the youngest South Asian woman to perform on the Broadway stage.

Kiran and her young performer and songwriter friend, Rickie Wang, will perform their favourite songs during the afternoon (2 to 5 p.m.).

Children can unleash their creative powers with an art activity led by visual artist Laara Cerman from the Richmond Art Truck, fun theatre games led by Gateway Academy Youth Leaders, and storytelling with professional actor and Gateway Academy instructor Magda Ochoa.

Dos Santos is a soul, jazz, and R&B singer based in Vancouver. Her commanding, powerful, and rich voice has won her two Western Canadian Music Awards. Her music is inspired by classic, neo-soul combined with smooth R&B elements, is similar to modern legends Sharon Jones and Charles Bradley.

Dos Santos will perform Motown tunes with her three-piece band during the evening (7 to 8:15 p.m.), after her scheduled performance for last year’s Songs of Summer event was cancelled due to bad weather. Audience members can also grab a drink from the concession.

Tickets are now on sale at gatewaytheatre.com/songs-of-summer-2022.
