Richmond has extended Earth Day into a week of activities, including tree planting on the Railway Greenway.

Celebrate Earth Day all week long
Earth Day is now Earth Week in Richmond.
From April 15 to 22, several events are
planned to help recognize environmental efforts. In addition to public
gatherings, many celebrations are being hosted by local businesses, schools and
community groups.
“Celebrating Earth Day is an important act in
supporting both our local and global community,” said Mayor Malcolm Brodie. “Richmond
prides itself in being a leader when it comes to strengthening the environment.
These activities help to create positive impacts that benefit not only us but
also future generations.”
The events will provide ideal opportunities
to learn about environmental issues and support actions toward creating greener
communities. Among them are:
• Park tree planting along the Railway
Greenway
• Hamilton Community Clean-Up and Book Swap
• City Centre Community free showing of The
Lorax and green activities led by the Green Initiatives Youth Leadership Team
• Six free workshops aimed at promoting
sustainable practices hosted at city hall
• West Richmond Community Clean-Up and Tree

The City is also supporting several park, trail
and natural area clean-ups by local businesses and community organizations
through the Partners for Beautification program. Partners for Beautification is
an opportunity for residents to become actively involved in the beautification
and stewardship of their community by adopting public spaces and keeping them
clean and green.
An annual worldwide celebration, Earth Day
began in 1970 to demonstrate support for environmental protection.
