B.C. reports 218 new COVID-19 cases, two deaths

B.C. health officials reported 218 new cases of COVID-19 today. Since the pandemic began, B.C. has recorded 355,092 cases.

Of the new cases, 28 are in the Vancouver Coastal Health region (including Richmond), 45 in the Fraser Health region, 47 in the Island Health region, 80 in the Interior Health region, 18 in the Northern Health region, and no new cases of people who reside outside of Canada.

There are 260 individuals hospitalized with COVID-19 and 50 are in intensive care.

To date, 11,468,257 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca and Pfizer Pediatric COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in B.C.; 4,344,849 of those are second doses and 2,654,589 are third doses. 

This means that 93.8 per cent of adults, 93.4 per cent of people aged 12 and older, and 90.8 per cent of people aged five and older have received their first dose of a vaccine. In addition, 91.4 per cent of adults, 91.0 per cent of those aged 12 and older, and 87.2 per cent of those aged five and older have received two doses; 59.0 per cent of adults and 57.3 per cent of those aged 12-plus have received three doses.

Sadly, there were two new COVID-related deaths reported today, bringing that total to 2,983. Of those who died, one lived in the Vancouver Coastal Health region and one in the Northern Health region.

Health authorities reported three new health-care facility outbreaks. Active outbreaks continue at six long-term care facilities and one acute care facility.

From March 17 to 23, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 15.8 per cent of cases.
From March 10 to 23, they accounted for 26.2 per cent of hospitalizations.

• Not vaccinated: 211 (14.2 per cent)

• Partially vaccinated: 24 (1.6 per cent)

• Fully vaccinated: 1,250 (84.2 per cent)

Past two weeks cases hospitalized (March 10 to 23)—Total 386

• Not vaccinated: 84 (21.8 per cent)

• Partially vaccinated: 17 (4.4 per cent)

• Fully vaccinated: 285 (73.8 per cent)

Past week, cases per 100,000 population after adjusting for age (March 17 to 23)

• Not vaccinated: 60.6

• Partially vaccinated: 18.0

• Fully vaccinated: 26.7

Past two weeks, cases hospitalized per 100,000 population after adjusting for age (March 10 to 23)

• Not vaccinated: 23.9

• Partially vaccinated: 15.5

• Fully vaccinated: 6.0
