Richmondites aged 15 to 20 can learn about local government through the city’s third annual Youth Civic Engagement Program.

Registration open for Youth Civic Engagement Program

Richmond residents aged 15 to 20 can register for a unique eight-session program focused on the workings of local government, hosted by the city.
The program offers youth a unique education-to-action experience to learn the decision-making process of local government, while meeting like-minded individuals. Youth will have the opportunity to hear the mayor’s experience on city council, gain an understanding about how the organization operates, and present to a mock council on the last day of the course.
“The Richmond Youth Civic Engagement Program was sparked by a presentation to Richmond City Council by a passionate group of Richmond youth,” said Mayor Malcolm Brodie. “It is an excellent opportunity for youth to learn about how the city works and to develop important skills to contribute to their civic, local government and community interests, and perhaps choose one of the many career paths in local government. We are looking forward to welcoming the registrants and offering this program for a third time.”
The course is free and runs for eight consecutive Thursday evenings, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., from April 21 to June 9. It is being held as a combination of online and in-person sessions at city hall (6911 No. 3 Road).
Registration is first come, first serve and there are 20 spots available. The deadline to register is the end of day on April 20.
