B.C. health officials reported 235 new cases of COVID-19 today. Since the pandemic began, B.C. has recorded 353,139 cases.

Although 235 new cases are being reported, the total number of cases has only increased by 174 from yesterday, according to a B.C. government news release. This has resulted in no new cases reported in Fraser Health and Vancouver Coastal Health and a decrease in the overall total number of cases in these health authorities compared to yesterday. This is due to data reconciliation from the preliminary numbers reported yesterday.

Of the new cases, none are in the Vancouver Coastal Health region (including Richmond), none in the Fraser Health region, 30 in the Island Health region, 182 in the Interior Health region, 23 in the Northern Health region, and no new cases of people who reside outside of Canada.

There are 329 individuals hospitalized with COVID-19 and 51 are in intensive care.

To date, 11,424,276 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca and Pfizer Pediatric COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in B.C.; 4,328,146 of those are second doses and 2,630,945 are third doses.

This means that 93.7 per cent of adults, 93.4 per cent of people aged 12 and older, and 90.7 per cent of people aged five and older have received their first dose of a vaccine. In addition, 91.3 per cent of adults, 90.9 per cent of those aged 12 and older, and 86.8 per cent of those aged five and older have received two doses; 58.6 per cent of adults and 56.8 per cent of those aged 12-plus have received three doses.

Sadly, there were eight new COVID-related deaths reported today, bringing that total to 2,953. One reported death was removed from the total due to a data correction. Of those who died since yesterday, four lived in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, two in the Fraser Health region, one in the Island Health region, and one in the Northern Health region.

Health authorities reported one new health-care facility outbreak. Active outbreaks continue at eight long-term care facilities and one acute care facility.

Due to a continued delay in BC Centre for Disease Control data, the update on cases and hospitalizations by vaccination status is unavailable today.
