B.C. reports 689 new COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations rise

B.C. health authorities reported 689 new cases of COVID-19 today. Since the pandemic began, there have been 158,256 cases in the province.
Of the new cases, 123 are in the Vancouver Coastal Health region (including Richmond), 219 in the Fraser Health region, 42 in the Island Health region, 278 in the Interior Health region, 27 in the Northern Health region and no new cases of people who reside outside of Canada.
There are 5,982 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C. and 121 of those people are hospitalized, 56 of whom are in intensive care.
To date, 7,280,835 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in B.C.; 3,431,103 of those are second doses.
This means that 83.7 per cent of adults and 82.9 per cent of people aged 12 and older have received their first dose of a vaccine. In addition, 75.3 per cent of adults and 74 per cent of those aged 12 and older have received two doses.
Sadly, there were two new virus-related deaths reported today, bringing that total to 1,784.
Health authorities reported one new healthcare facility outbreak and declared one over. Active outbreaks continue at eight long-term care facilities and three assisted or independent living facilities.
