Library to host free summer kids programs
The library’s the place to be this summer.
Kids of all ages are invited to hang out at
the Richmond Public Library and engage in the annual Summer Reading Club.
Starting Wednesday, June 28, there will be scores of exciting program sure to
captivate the imagination.
The Summer Reading Club, an ideal way for
kids and families to keep building reading skills while having fun together,
will have a formal kick-off party July 8 with the fun lasting until a wrap-up
party and medal ceremony Sept. 9. Kids are encouraged to pick up a reading
booklet and collect stickers starting July 19 while completing weekly
age-appropriate reading challenges.
In addition to the Summer Reading Club, kids
can enjoy literacy, science and digital technology programs plus author visits,
book clubs and contests at their neighbourhood library. Featured programs this
year include a Mo Willems book party, Nature Buddies where kids partner with a
high school mentor for literacy and nature-themed activities, and Lego Digital
Designer, a software program that teaches kids how to build their own virtual
Lego objects.
All library programs are free to join. Note
that some programs are registered and some are drop-in. Registration opens on
