There’s fun in Richmond all summer long

After a long, cold winter and a wet spring,
summer’s finally here. Make the most of it by participating in the myriad of
activities throughout Richmond.
Here’s just a sample of what’s on tap.
NATIONS CUP SOCCER
Dates: July 14 to 16
Venues: Hugh Boyd, Steves and Minoru parks
In its 38th year, one of Western Canada’s
foremost amateur men’s and women’s soccer tournaments is unique; players are
grouped based on their ethnic backgrounds and/or countries or origin. All told,
1,100 players will compete in six age groups.
DOLPHIN PARK CLASSIC
Dates: July 14 to 16
Venue: South Arm Community Centre
Since originating in 1986 as a tournament for bragging rights among the top local high schoolers, this 4-on-4 outdoor basketball classic has evolved into a West Coast mainstay. Despite drawing players and fans from far and wide, organizers remain true to its roots: family, friends and basketball.
CANADIAN COMMUNITY PICNIC PARTY
Date: July 14, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Venue: Thompson Community Centre
The Canadian Community Picnic Party will
serve up free entertainment and performances, arts, crafts and face painting.
There’ll also be activity stations, games and interactive booths. Plus, there’s
free food and refreshments.
MINI GOLF
Dates: Daily, except Mondays, all summer
Venue: West Coast Mini Putt, 7391 Elmbridge
Way
A twist on the traditional game of indoor mini
putt, this the 18-hole course, is divided by light and black light, inspired by
art. The open concept course is

SWIM OR SKATE ALL SUMMER
Dates: June 29 to Sept. 4
Venues: Local public swimming/skating venues
Children ages 5 to 16 can swim and skate all summer for $19 with the City of Richmond’s Summer Pass. The new unlimited pass gives them access to any public session at Minoru Aquatic Centre, Watermania, South Arm Outdoor Pool, Steveston Outdoor Pool and Richmond Ice Centre.Info: richmond.ca/summerpass.
GO KARTING
Dates: All summer
Venue: Richmond Go Karts,
6631 Sidaway Rd.
Western Canada’s longest go-kart track has
hairpin turns, curves, straightaways and lots of room to pass safely—perfect
for both the beginner and experienced drivers. It’s also a great place to fire
up the barbecue in the covered outdoor picnic area.

RICHMOND OLYMPIC EXPERIENCE
Dates: All summer
Venue: Richmond Olympic Oval
Ever wonder what it would be like be a world-class athlete? State-of-the-art Olympic and sport simulators allow the visitor the thriil of flying off a ski jump at a distance of over two city blocks, padding down a white-water kayak course, carving the perfect line in a National Paralympic Team’s sit-ski slalom race or zipping along at incredible speeds on the Vancouver 2010 Olympic bobsleigh track while challenging actual Olympic run times.Info: therox.ca.
