Tuesday shooting victim known to police

The victim of Tuesday morning’s shooting in South Richmond is known to police and in stable condition in hospital where he is recovering from multiple gunshot wounds, Richmond Mounties said Wednesday.
The 44-year-old man was found by police around 6 a.m. inside a house on the 7800 block of Waterton Drive, near No. 3 Road and Steveston Highway. Police responded to multiple calls of possible shots fired.
Neighbours described the house in which the victim was found as sketchy, with young and rough-looking people either visiting or residing there. It was previously the subject of at least one previous police visit in the last couple of years, a neighbour told The Richmond Sentinel.
Investigators believe the shooting is targeted, but said the victim has no known ties to gangs or organized crime. Police are still trying to determine the motive for the shooting.
“Based on information gathered through our investigation, it appears the shooting was targeted,” RCMP Acting Cpl. Adriana Peralta said. “We want to reassure the public that this was not a random act and that the risk to their personal safety is low.”
Witnesses told police a black, hatchback-style sedan was seen speeding away from the area at the time of the shooting. The vehicle’s connection to the shooting is unknown.
