Theft of 20-foot shipping container shocks Richmond family

A Richmond family is in shock after a 20-foot shipping container filled with pre-cut quartz kitchen countertops and islands, was stolen from a plaza on Bridgeport Road sometime between Friday night and Saturday morning.
Moony Cabana told The Richmond Sentinel that sometime between 6 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. Saturday, the green shipping container was removed from the parking lot of a business on the 11300 block of Bridgeport Road, between Shell and No. 5 Road.
Cabana’s family runs Moon Quartz Stone Inc. based in Vancouver and had the container brought to Richmond for extra customizing work to be done on the material.
The container was dropped off at 6 p.m. Friday, and was scheduled to be unloaded Saturday morning when it was discovered missing by Cabana’s friend.
“I thought he was joking. I don’t know why people would do something like this.”
The shipping container’s contents, valued at about $50,000, are worthless to anybody else because they’ve already been cut to the unique dimensions of a construction job in Vancouver.
“Any stone company won’t want it,” she said. “Even if you give it to them, they won’t want it,” she said.
But the impact is serious. It will affect the timeline for the construction project to be completed and will cost the family a lot of money.
Cabana has contacted the Richmond RCMP.
Anybody who has information about the theft, which would have involved a semi truck, is asked to call the Richmond RCMP at 604-278-1212.
