Richmond Sockeyes go in search of their
second win in as many days when they face the Ridge Meadows Flames tonight
(Friday) at Planet Ice.
Last night, captain Tyler Andrews once again
led the way with a goal and an assist as the Sockeyes doubled visiting Mission
City Outlaws 2-1 at Minoru Arenas. Both goals came in the first period, giving
the Sockeyes a 2-0 lead which they maintained until late in the third period,
when Mission scored on the powerplay.
The leading scorer in the Pacific Junior
Hockey League, Andrews upped his point total to 17 through six games by opening
the scoring at 9:58, and then helping set up Nicolas Bizzutto’s eventual
winning goal at 16:13.
Now 3-2-0-1 on the season, Richmond likely
deserved even more goals given they outshot Mission 45-18, but were denied by
the brilliant goalkeeping of Mission’s Matthew Trulsen who was selected the
game’s first star.
After playing in Ridge Meadows on Friday, the
Sockeyes are slated to visit Aldergrove Kodiaks next Wednesday before returning
home. The Sockeyes’ next home game is Thursday, Oct. 5 versus the Flames. Game
time is 7 p.m. at Minoru Arenas.
