Hockey Devils host breakfast with Santa

The Richmond Devils senior AA women’s hockey
team has made it a holiday tradition to volunteer at the annual Santa Breakfast
at Richmond Family Place. This past year was no exception.
With coach Tony Cheema playing the lead role
of Santa, and some of the players (Brynley Ross, Natalie Korenic and Kaarina
Swinburnson) serving as elves, the 2017 event was a memorable occasion.
Prior to the event, other players set up and
decorated the venue to welcome many new families to Richmond.
“It was a lot of fun,” said first-time Santa
Cheema. “Seeing the surprise on the kids’ faces was awesome.”
Cheema says it equally warms his heart to see
both the generosity and commitment of the players to lend a helping hand.
“They take it very seriously but they also
all get a lot of joy from it,” he says.
There were two seatings for a pancake
breakfast that also included crafts, holiday carolling and a photo and gift
session with Santa.
Lending a helping hand is nothing new for the
Richmond Devils. During the course of the year, the team helps to organize and
participate in many activities at Family Place.
Richmond Family Place’s mission is to ensure
that every child in Richmond reaches their full potential.
