Promising “An Evening of Wonders,” Vitaly offers illusions to tickle the mind and magic to help a local community group June 5 at River Rock Casino Resort.
“I’m doing illusions that I created that combine art and magic,” says Vitaly.
Magic, he says, “Appeals to our deep human need to experience wonder.”
Ryan Berger, president of Beth Tikvah Synagogue which is benefitting from the show, says the event “promises to be a fun and engaging evening for the whole family.”
"We look forward to a night out with the Richmond community ,with proceeds from the evening supporting early childhood programs, sustenance to community members in need, as well as social and spiritual programs in Richmond.”
One of Vitaly’s signature illusions involves a familiar piece of identification.
“I make their faces disappear from their driver’s license,” he says, offering the illusion of a solution to an age-old problem. “If you don’t like how you look on your driver’s license, you can come to the show and we can fix it.”
With a wink and a smile he says, “Make sure everybody brings a backup driver and bus fare because I will remove their faces from their driver’s license.”
Vitaly says his dreams came true when he did a four-month engagement at the Westside Theatre just off Broadway in New York, where Penn and Teller started their careers many years ago. The same Penn and Teller who describe Vitaly’s work as, “Amazing Magic. Ingenious!”
Cited by Broadway World as a performer who, “Breaks down boundaries to let his audiences imaginations roam into the realm of the impossible,” Vitaly has also received favourable reviews from the Chicago Tribune where he was described as, “one of the most captivating and enjoyable illusionists performing in the world.”
With opening act from Stephen R. Kaplan, whom Vitaly describes as a Vancouver MC and magician, the evening promises to be full of magic, wonder and good deeds.
In a show suitable for all ages, Vitaly cautions that children need to be able to sit still through a two-hour evening but suggests it will appeal to ages eight through 108.
Doors to the River Rock Show Theatre, 8811 River Rd., open at 6 p.m. with the show starting at 7 p.m.
